Wedding Dance Trend

This is for Mir who is getting married on Friday. Mir, what can I say? I wish you and Otto every happiness. I can't wait to read about your "Suthun" adventures together.

Have you heard about the latest wedding trend involving first dances? Apparently couples are making their first dance memorable by creating entertaining and sometimes surprising dance "performances." I saw it on Nightline last night. Check it out.

Couples are having their entire wedding party perform Michael Jackson's "Thriller." What's not to love about this.

Actually, it seems like Michael Jackson is actually pretty popular at weddings.

Or, inspired by movies, couples are re-creating elaborate dance routines. This is kinda awesome.

But I think the "surprise" routines are my favorite. Take this couple who dupes their guests into thinking they are performing a waltz. Points if you can name this song (which played a pivotal role in my childhood).

Dr. Dre makes an appearance at this wedding. Who knew?

Shoot, at our wedding we had a hippie guy playing "Into the Mystic" on an acoustic guitar. This almost makes me want to get married again. Cuz J. and I would turn that mutha out.

This is SUH-WEET. Tim and I must do something fresh at our recommitment ceremony in a few years. Nice.

Oh - and "Lookin For The Perfect Beat"? don't leave home without it. Ask J is he's a SUPERBREAKER next time you hear that song.

Well, ya know...The Boyfriend (soon to be finace!) and I actually MET in a dance class. When I told our tango instructor that we'd been looking at rings, she already started planning our first dance. It'll be something fun!

I'll be sure to put a video of ours up on the blog when we do get hitched. :)

LOVED this post, CM. Lots of ideas! :)

Awww, that gave me goosebumps.

This is top secret to our friends and family, but they aren't internet savvy, so I'll share it here.

T and I were in an Irish bar three years ago celebrating a friends engagement. The song "i believe in miracles....you sexy thing...since you came along" came on the jukebox.

(from the full monty if you can't place the song)

Then and there we decided that would be our wedding song. We are going to start out with some sappy slow song and then have the dj make a big scccccraaaattttchhhh noise into I believe in miracles.

I would have loved to do this with my husband but he can't dance! Years of doing some baked, chest-thumping, Dead Head sleestack dance robbed him of any rhythm he may have once had. It's all very sad, really.

thanks for this! this is hilarious! !!

This is awesome! I would wish to get marry again just to do that, but A. would never in his lifetime go for something like that.

That Dirty Dancing routine brought tears to my eyes, as much as the original one does. (Every time!)

this was totally entertaining! loved it!
i am showing my husband ASAP so we can start practicing our "routine" for our 10 year anniv. (in 5 years).

Isn't it every bride's dream to have her special day immortalized on youtube where the masses can laugh their asses off at her?

Remind me if/when we ever get married to stick with a waltz.

great finds! I am such a sucker for weddings that I cried during all of those videos. I don't know what it is about weddings... gets me every time.

Totally fun!!!

love the "waltz turned breakdance"
one. it's cool because they're having so much fun together. i'm gonna try and get my brother and his fiance to do something like this.

This was so cool! I have to do something like this when we renew our vows!! Wish I would have thought to do something like this at my wedding!
I loved the one with the Dirty Dancin one!! Wow! they were good!

OMG... I watched every one of those videos before the wedding, and now that I have a moment to collect myself had to tell you that NEVER had I been SO GLAD we didn't plan a reception. ;)

Thanks for the giggles, Stefania!

LOL that was cool. I have to do that for the weddings I DJ.
Too funny!
