I'd love to blog...
but I'm stuck in Facebook and I can't get out. Let's start the jokes now: Your mom's on Facebook, dude. God.
Seriously, I'd like to put the kibosh on any more social networks. I can't take it anymore. I'm exhausted. Just when get LinkedIn looking all pretty and just as I try to extricate myself from Twitter, along comes an inbox full of Facebook requests. And so I spend 495 hours over 3 days filling out my profile and thinking up funny relationships with people and playing with all the applications. The music test thingy is evil. And it's hilarious that most of the users have the words "Yadda High School '10" next to their names.
But the thing is...
Facebook kinda rulezzz. Why does it rule so much? Someone please 'splain me.
Who else is lost in the timesuck? Tell me I'm not alone. And tell me how college students get anything done. I'm slackery enough as it is. If this were around back in the day, I would never have graduated.

See, that's why my work sucks lately, more than usual that is. Damn Facebook and the zombies and the never-ending movie quiz.

You're not alone. I had a blog once, too. And I'm trying to write a book. Oh, and have a life.
I never understood the attraction with MySpace, and yet here I am, completely trapped in facebookland. And utterly addicted to Scrabulous, to boot.

I know about the Facebook....and it's great. Lost in it too.
Yesterday my viola teacher from ten years added me as a friend (he's near 60...)

I feel like such a loser, I've never been to Facebook..;)

I'm with Trish on Scrabulous. It's the "Best Ever" waste of time at work. Facebook has only added the news feeds and apps within the past year though, so prior to that, it wasn't nearly as big a waste of time. It was also harder to cyber-stalk your friends. Hurray for progress.

Ok, I have registered for facebook and clearly don't understand it, because I couldn't figure out why in the hell I would ever use it. What is the point of it, exactly? Or, rather, what would I use it for?
Posted by: Nicole | August 17, 2007 at 07:13 AM
I never did the MySpace either. And VOX...ennhhhhh. My facebook has completely captured my attention.
The scrabble...the music...the making up funny relationships with people...the constantly checking everyone's status. HELP! GET ME OUTTA HERE!

I'm addicted too.
I am thrilled to have reconnected with some people whom I've lost track of through the years, it's such a great tool for that.
On the flip side, there's alot of people I haven't been in touch with for 15-20 years for a reason. And I feel it can be just like being in high school all over again...what's with that!

They don't call it Crackbook for nothing...
I must check it 3 trillion times a day...
and I have about 12 Scrabulous games going on.
What did I ever do with my time before?
Oh, I know.... work!

Haven't tried scrabble yet, but I just joined Facebook this week and I can't stop checking it all day long. It's more of a time sink than blogging, I think!

I'm loving it too. And Scrabulous is my new favorite thing in the world. I'm currently getting my ass kicked by a dude from college (who I've seen maybe once in the past 12 years).

Not to get all nerdified, but a social marketing list I'm on is totally buzzing right now about the potential for Facebook as a tool for social marketers. It's kind of a fascinating concept really and, though I've never been there, hearing about how everyone is addicted to it has me sort of excited to see how it could play out for improving the public's health. Verrrrry interesting.

I never felt the warm fuzzies with Facebook. I am definitely missing something. I never heard of the Scrabulous though. I need to explore more.
Well, actually I don't - that is probably the last thing I need in life!

omg. that video is hilarious. And yes, I am a facebooker too. *blush*

Facebook totally rules, if only because of the "doodle" board thingy which allows you to draw pretty paint pictures for people.
Do you have that one yet? ha

I'm out of college now, but I always facebooked during class on my laptop.
Posted by: Trish2 | August 17, 2007 at 04:54 PM
what else can I say? yeah. me too.
AND . . .
If I'd had Facebook when I was in high school, the drama that unfolded would have been about 1000X as destructive as it already was . . .
it kills me that I was born 20 years too soon . . .
Posted by: Rain | August 17, 2007 at 06:21 PM
PS--I can't HEAR you about the Scrabulous thing. Whatever that is, I'm going to pretend I never heard of it . . .
(never mind my pac-man sickness . . . )
Posted by: Rain | August 17, 2007 at 06:24 PM
and *this* is why i limit my computer time to 42 seconds + blog time per day. i don't even really read or respond to email anymore. facebook? last time it was mentioned to me was by my 17-y-o (former) child i used to nanny. when she was in her senior year of high school and trying to see where all the cute boys were going to college.
either i'm old or you are.
anyway, social networks are for people with friends. so i'm automatically out.
now you have to post your profile.

I better not even start with Facebook...at least that's better than my time suck of Celebrity Baby Blog. How lame is that !
Posted by: pamela | August 17, 2007 at 07:39 PM
Err, yeah, it adds more time, in fact is a time vacuum. I'm only on two though.
Note to self: do not send friend request to citymama. ;)
I'm dubious about the relative merit of these social networks.
But I'm on Facebook anyway.
I am SO GLAD they did not have any of this technology when I was in college. OMG had there been YouTube, camera phones, Internet...well, let's say I prefer my own selective and watered down memories. Would not like them captured. Especially not for mass distribution.
Hey, I gave you an AWARD on my blog today. :)

i'm new to facebook as well. several friends have been trying to get me in for the past year. i avoided it till recently. i thought it would just be another fun thing to ignore.
i'm slowly getting sucked in. the only downside is the pseudo-acquaintances from eons ago getting in touch with me. i lost contact for a reason.

I'm so mad I read this post. I can't handle any more sites to go to or networks to join and then I read this! It's so tempting, but I just don't know if I can bring myself to it.

I hear ya sister. I am ridiculously addicted to Facebook. I blog about "the retreat of cool" on www.donmillsdiva.blogspot.com and I'm going to talk about my facebook addiction soon - it's got be related to my desperate need to try and keep up with what the cool kids are doing these days!
Posted by: Don Mills Diva | August 21, 2007 at 10:51 AM
I signed up for Facebook. I mean, my 15 year old can do it, why can't I figure it out? I don't even know what it's supposed to be or do. I'm old. YEESH.
