Recently I received the coffee table book America At Home by Rick Smolan and Jennifer Erwitt. According to the PR spiel, I and you may be interested in this book because:
A) It contains many images children being children and the parents who love them. (Yes, it truly does.)
B) It's beautiful. (Okay, it really is.)C) The Custom Cover feature is pretty cool. It is a way for parents to put their kids on the cover of their very own book. (See below, this feature is for poor saps like me. I bought it hook, line, and sinker.)D) It was created during a seven day-period last September by not only 100 professional photographers but by tens of thousands of amateurs as well. (Hard to tell the diff sometimes.)E) It features evocative captions, thought-provoking statistics plus personal essays from noted writers including Amy Tan, former editor in chief of House and Garden Magazine, Dominique Browning, Simpsons' creator Matt Groening and New York Times correspondent David Pogue. (I didn't read any of those, I just looked at the pics.)
I opted to get the custom cover (described when you click the link) and WOW. I am totally blown away by it. They appealed to my motherly sentiment--I uploaded an image of my girls (took a minute) and the cover arrived about a week later. Suddenly it made the book (which is on my coffee table) come alive. I can't help but smile big everytime I walk past it. Very clever marketing tool.
Note: I saw these books at IKEA in their as-is section for $10. I would get the book there (if you are interested in it) and then order the custom cover separately.
What I like about it: Everything. The custom cover makes this a truly special gift. I absolutely love it.
What I don't: I wouldn't have bought this book without the custom cover, but now that I've seen the potential, I would. Kudos to you, PR person!
Cost to you: $39.95 + S/H for book with custom cover or $7.95 + S/H for just the cover
Cost to me: Free
